Working with Terminal Server Licensing
Click Start, (All) Programs, Administrative Tools, Terminal Server Licensing
to launch the RDP licensing-management utility. You need to install a
Terminal Server License Server only for Terminal Servers configured in
Application Server Mode. Under TS Application Server Mode, clients can
connect to Terminal Servers using temporary TS licenses that get issued to
each client for a maximum of 120 days from the first day of issuance. Owners
of Windows XP Professional clients purchased prior to April 2003 can obtain
Terminal Server 2003 Client Access Licenses through the Microsoft
Terminal Server Activation Clearinghouse. All other clients, including
Windows 9x, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP clients
purchased after April 2003, must have TS Client Access Licenses (TSCALs)
purchased for each of them. Before the 120-day temporary license expires for
the first client to connect to the Terminal Server, you must activate a license
server and install TSCALs for each client that needs to connect to a Terminal
Server.
