1. Open IIS Manager.
2. Right-click the Web Sites node, one of the Web sites listed, a virtual
directory, or a file within a virtual directory, and select Properties.
3. From the object's properties sheet, click the Directory Security tab (for
a file, click the File Security tab).
4. For the Authentication and Access Control section, click the Edit but-
ton to display the Authentication Methods dialog box (see Figure 7.33).
5. You can make the following modifications to the Authentication
Methods dialog box:
➤ T change the user account for anonymous access, type the user
o
account and the password in the User Name and Password boxes.
➤ T disable anonymous access, clear the Enable Anonymous Access
o
check box.
➤ T specify authenticated access methods, mark or clear the check
o
box for each method that you want to enable or disable: Integrated
Windows Authentication (default), Digest Authentication for
Windows Domain Servers, Basic Authentication (Password Is Sent
in Clear Text), and .NET Passport Authentication.
➤ For Digest Authentication, you can select or type the name of a
realm in the Realm box.
➤ For Basic Authentication, you can select or type the name of a realm
in the Realm box or the name of a default domain in the Default
Domain box.
➤ For .NET Passport Authentication, you can select or type the name
of a default domain in the Default Domain box.
6. When you're finished specifying authentication methods, click OK to
save your settings.
7. Click OK to close the properties window.
Setting Web Server Permissions
In addition to any NTFS security permissions that you might apply to fold-
ers and files stored on disk, Web sites, virtual directories, and files stored in
those virtual directories are assigned Web server permissions that apply to all
users. Web server permissions also affect WebDAV permissions in terms of
which actions are allowed for accessing documents using WebDAV-enabled
applications. The WebDAV protocol gives users the ability to read, write,
